CHICAGO (March 9, 2023) — Through the power of sharing and individual and collective giving, Chicago’s youth are creating the change they want to see in the city. A panel discussion featuring Village Leadership Academy students and Jahkil Jackson of Project I Am will address that topic from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 24 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., Chicago.

The “New School Grassroots Philanthropy: Yeah Youth” panel discussion is part of “Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited,” hosted by Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy (CAAIP). The exhibit is free and open to the public through April 30 at the Chicago Cultural Center.

“It all starts with a spark of an idea to solve a societal problem,” said Jessyca Dudley, chair of The Soul of Philanthropy Chicago. “Today’s youth are empowered to make decisions on projects of importance to them and to secure funding to support the programs and initiatives. The brilliance of our young people is showcased through triumphant efforts.”

Jahkil Jackson has touched the lives of over 60,000 men, women and children worldwide and has established a non-profit organization, Project I Am, whose mission is to raise awareness about homelessness. He has been cited and received awards from numerous organizations for his outstanding achievements: Youth Ambassador, Heartland Alliance; WE International Youth Board; BET’s 15 Under 15; and KidBox Youth Board. In 2017, he was recognized by President Barack Obama as one of the three most influential people of the year. Citing him as the kind of young role model they wanted to be associated with their company, GAP selected him to be part of their 2021 NexGenGap advertising campaign. He attends De La Salle High School on Chicago’s South Side.
